What is Power Ledger ?

Power Ledger is a company leading the global race to market to offer an electricity trading platform using blockchain technology. We are based in Perth, Australia, and were founded in May 2016 by a team of a team of respected energy industry professionals, sustainability leaders, disruptors, developers and innovators.

Who is Power Ledger?

Power Ledger is the brainchild of a team of respected energy industry professionals, sustainability leaders, disruptors, developers and innovators. It is a team with technical expertise, commercial acumen, regulatory knowledge and a relentless passion to revolutionise the energy sector for the benefit of consumers, producers and distributors.

Power Ledger has developed a series of world-leading blockchain energy applications, such as our P2P energy trading application that allows businesses, such as Utilities, to host trading on the Platform. Blockchain technology provides a transparent, auditable and automated market trading and clearing mechanism for the benefit of producers and consumers. Our technology enables the sale of surplus renewable energy generated at residential and commercial developments (including multi-unit/multi-tenanted) connected to existing electricity distribution networks, or within micro-grids. Power Ledger puts the power to manage the energy economy into the hands of consumers, while maintaining the value of existing distribution networks.

The Founders

Jemma Green, Chair: Jemma has over 15 years’ experience in finance and risk advisory, having worked 11 years in investment banking in London. Jemma holds a masters and two post-doctorate degrees from Cambridge University and a Ph.D. in Disruptive Innovation.
David Martin, Managing Director: Over 20 years’ experience in the energy industry, including executive roles in two state-owned utilities and electricity industry consultancy.
Jenni Conroy, Director & Company Secretary: 30 years’ experience in the energy industry and founder of an energy sector consulting firm, Future Effect. Holds Masters degrees in both Business and Commercial Law.
John Bulich, Director & Technical Director: John is also the founder of Ledger Assets, Australia’s leading blockchain science commercialization company. John has background in computer science.

Gov van Ek, Director & Technical Commercialization: Gov is also the founder of Ledger Assets and holds a Ph.D. in Total Technology. Gov has held Managing Director roles in a number of private and listed companies.

The Power Ledger Road Map

With our Token Generation Event opening soon, we want to ensure that everyone thinking of participating is aware of what it entails and, more importantly, what comes next. At the Token Generation Event, POWR tokens will be up for sale, these unique ERC20-compliant tokens allow ecosystem participants and Application Hosts access to and use of the Power Ledger platform. We’ve made it incredibly simple to purchase our tokens by accepting both fiat and digital currencies.

Following the Token Generation Event, POWR tokens may be listed on major exchange sites, adding to the transparency and liquidity of the asset. Beta-testing of a range of platform applications will commence, starting with the Microgrid/ Embedded Network Operator/ Strata and Electric Vehicle Trading Applications. Further down the road, users will also have the chance to make the most of our Green Energy Loyalty Rewards Program. The aim of the program is to thank users for engaging in our platform and sharing our vision, while also giving even more reason to consume and produce renewable energy.

At the start of 2018, distribution of the Power Ledger Growth Pool will begin, whose purpose is to facilitate rapid growth of the platform’s user base. Application Hosts who joined our ecosystem early will be awarded tokens from the Growth Pool to show that we appreciate their early contribution and want them to stick around to make future contributions. During this period, we will also be completing our transition into a modified, fee-less consortium Ethereum network. Through the use of this customized blockchain, the platform will be able to keep up with users’ transactional peer-to-peer needs and their energy costs should drop dramatically.

In the latter part of 2018, more of our planned ecosystem applications will undergo beta-testing — this time the Autonomous Asset Management and Neo-Retailer Applications. Other applications will be brought into use and Application Hosts will be targeted to onboard more participants. We may also directly deploy the application ourselves. The first Asset Germination Event will take place around this time, where we will give individuals and communities the chance to become co-owners and beneficiaries of the renewable assets we have purchased, with POWR token holders having priority. More development and testing for the Carbon Trading, Wholesale Market Settlement, and Distributed Market Management Applications will be performed later.

In 2019, we plan to run regular additional Asset Germination Events, which will give the POWR token more intrinsic value and support. PowerPort and other applications will also be under development, and we will be doing everything we can to achieve our goal of operating wholly on a public proof-of-stake blockchain. Later in the year, the PowerPort application and any other applications created in the meantime will undergo beta-testing.

Whats next?

Power Ledger is conducting a Token Generation Event (TGE) to fuel an ecosystem of energy applications on the blockchain. Our vision is to co-create an electricity network system that is resilient, low-cost, zero-carbon and owned by the people of the world.
